Clinical centrifuges use centrifugal force to sediment various substances in test tubes or centrifuge tubes. These sample tubes are set in uniform circular motion around a central point. The extremely high number of rotations and the resulting centrifugal force separate solid substances from liquids. The higher the density, the farther the material moves outward, displacing substances with a lower density. Such sedimentation or deposition would take much longer under normal gravity or would not occur at all.

The Different Rotors of Centrifuges
